Soprano Solange Sior A former winner of the Canadian Music
Competition and winner of the National Bel Canto Competition, as well as
finalist of The Metropolitan Opera National Council, this French Canadian
artist has been making her home in Chicago for several years.
A
graduate with Bachelor and Masters degrees in Vocal Performance from the University
of Montreal and a former apprentice with Lyric Opera Center for American
Artists (Chicago), Miss Sior has performed with many organizations in the
Midwest and in Canada including the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Florentine Opera
Company, Light Opera Works, Lincoln Opera, Chamber Opera Chicago, Chicago
Concertante, Opera Viva, Concert Artists AB, New Music Chicago, Albany Symphony
Orchestra, Elgin Symphony Orchestra, Elgin Choral Union, Northwest Chicago
Symphony, Youth and Music Canada, Lyri-Quebec, Lyri-Art, La Belle Epoque
Theatre, and La Bergerie Theatre.
At
the prestigious Shaker Mountain Music
Festival she performed 3 years in a row and sang the lead roles of Marguerite (highly acclaimed!), Suor Angelica, and Manon. She sang Mimi in “La Boheme” at the Amalfi Coast Music
Festival in Italy. She has also
performed the roles of Violetta, Musetta,
Pamina, Fiordiligi, Monica, and the
title role in “Rose-Marie” and “The Incomplete Education” by Chabrier.
In 2007, Sior brought the house down in
several performances of Madama Butterfly
under the direction of Maestro Philip Morehead from the Lyric Opera of Chicago
and Maestro Francesco Milioto,
assistant director at Ravinia.
As a pianist, Solange holds a D.E.C. and
Laureate Degrees from Montreal’s Vincent-d’Indy Music School. She maintains a
voice and piano studio in Elgin. She has recently been nominated for the
Margaret Hillis Award for the Arts and serves as music panelist on the Illinois
Arts Council.
